What Should I Do Next?

Despite being in BTV since August of 2011, I still consider myself to be a stranger!

That being said, I am always looking for more things to observe.

If you have a suggestion or, even better, a REQUEST, feel free to post it here. I will do my best to fulfill these in a reasonable time frame, provided my almost-wife is also intrigued.

Thanks!

Until next time,

A Stranger Observing Burlington, Vermont – Elek

  1. Something Musical….do they play traditional tunes anywhere? Something traditional seems appropriate because it can tell us about Vermont. Maybe they sing old ballads about snake mountain and maple syrup?

Or alternatively, just catch a rock show and tell us about the venue and maybe a local band!

  2. Hey Russ- I read your article on the abandoned highway. Funny, I’ve been meaning to explore that place for years now. Want an even stranger area in South Burlington to ponder? Its an abandoned (seemingly) resort hotel called ‘Allenwood’. The entrance to it is just a little further down rt 7 on your right (coming from Burlington) and the driveway has some stone pillars surrounding it and a locked gate. Fortunately the gate is easily circumvented. I’ve visited this place a couple of times, and grabbed some brochures; it appears to have stopped operating around the late 1940’s. I’ve poked around on the internet a bit, and haven’t been able to find any information on it, just a picture of an old postcard. If your interested at all, let me know and I’ll take you there. Its a cool place for photographs.

  3. Now that summer is a-cumin in, a few great things to do are: see a movie at the Sunset Drive-In (Colchester); rent a canoe or kayaks at Auer’s Boathouse, at the top of the bike path just where the Winooski enters the lake (I hope they stayed open, it seemed touch-and-go after Irene last year); check out the local farmers’ markets – Burlington, Winooski, Shelburne etc.; hit Summervale once it starts (Thursday night shindigs at the Intervale Center starting in July); pick berries at Adam’s Berry Farm or Charlotte Berry Farm.

    • Wow… that is a whole list of things! Thanks for the feedback. Planning to hit the Marathon tomorrow (not running, that’s for sure!), but would really be interested in exploring some of these suggestions and, hopefully, turning this back into a more consistent blog. Thanks again, SOBVT – Elek
